Mentorship Program

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!

Another successful year of mentorship is already underway! Every year, SCCP organizes a mentorship program, matching our student members with pharmacists around the state. This year, 31 SCCP members were matched with 27 pharmacy mentors.  Students find it helpful to be connected with a pharmacist who can offer advice and answer questions about career paths, academics, pharmacy interests, or how to achieve professional goals.  Students may choose to try to match with pharmacists from a specialty that interests them, while others may prefer to match with pharmacy residents or general practice pharmacists to help them further discover their interests.  The mentorship program is a great, low-stakes way to start networking and building relationships in the pharmacy profession! If you have questions about the mentorship program, please contact our Outreach Coordinator, Kaitlin Bruden at kbruden@wisc.edu for more information.

Infectious Disease & Antimicrobial Stewardship Special Interest Group

CHECK OUT THIS MESSAGE FROM THE LEADERS!

SCCP is happy to be offering a new student interest group! The Infectious Disease and Antimicrobial Stewardship Special Interest Group is a student organization with the goal of providing an introduction to ID/AMS, while providing a means to stay up to date on advancements in the field. Meetings involve journal clubs, pharmacist presentations, updates on current global infectious disease issues, ID related games and trivia, and opportunities to present ID- related research in an informal environment. Our next meeting is from 5:30-6:30pm on Thursday, December 3rd via WebEx. Students who have an interest in ID/AMS or would like to learn more are encouraged to join; it’s easy and free!  Email Alex Peterson-Weber, Nate Bartley, or Hailey Thompson if you are interested or have questions.

Get Involved!

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRN CO-CHAIRS

SCCP offers several events throughout the school year to al low students to get
involved while broadening their clinical and professional skill:

Clinical Research Competition: This competition is targeted towards pharmacy students in their first two years. Critically evaluating and applying primary literature is an essential skill for clinical pharmacists. Research and scholarship contribute to improved health outcomes for patients and advancements in the profession of clinical pharmacy. This innovative and unique competition offers teams of three pharmacy students to participate in an online journal club, and the opportunity to submit a letter of intent and a clinical research proposal .

Clinical Pharmacy Competition: Teams of three students will compete against teams in a “quiz-bowl ” type format. Each round will consist of questions offered in the three distinct segments: trivia/lightning, clinical case, and jeopardy-style.

Research Symposium: This is an opportunity for students to present research that they have been a part of in a poster presentation manner . The top 3 posters of the symposium have historically received a monetary award to support them presenting at a national convention.
