Fall 2019
ACCP Annual Meeting
New York City, NY
Several SCCP members were able to travel to NYC for this year’s ACCP annual meeting. Attendees included our president, Cait Albrecht (DPH-3), and our president-elect, Matt Wiedholz (DPH-2), as well as DPH-4, Paige Gundrum. All three were first time attendees. Here’s what they had to about their experiences:
“I attended this year’s meeting because I had a poster presentation accepted from my research APPE. My favorite part of this year’s meeting was having an opportunity to connect with and talk to residency programs during the Professional Placement Forum. I had the opportunity to talk one-on-one with several residency program directors, preceptors, and residents for programs that I was interested in.” – Paige Gundrum, DPH-4
“As a third year, I thought it’d be beneficial to attend a national pharmacy conference, and ACCP is the organization I’m most interested in. As the president of SCCP, I also thought it would be helpful to attend programming geared toward executive members of SCCPs at different schools, to hopefully get some ideas of ways we could improve as a chapter.” – Cait Albrecht, DPH-3
“My favorite part of this year’s meeting was the Student Chapter Forum because I gained some new ideas that could make our chapter even better. The Clinical Pharmacy Challenge was fun to watch too! What you get out of the conference depends on how much you put into it, but don’t sweat it. At the end of the day, the
meeting is a friendly environment with a plethora of opportunities to learn, grow, and make connections.” – Matt Wiedholz, DPH-2
ACCP 2019 Annual Meeting
This year’s meeting took place in New York City this October. If you are looking for a low stress, fun, and informative meeting designed to help you develop your professional skills as a student pharmacist, consider attending next year’s meeting. More details on next year’s meeting to come!
Mentorship Program
SCCP’s Mentorship program has once again been a huge success! Our amazing Outreach Chair, Kaitlin Bruden, was able to match 24 practicing pharmacists in Wisconsin with members of SCCP. These pharmacists work in a variety of specialties such as psychiatry & mental health, anticoagulation, pediatrics, critical care, oncology, informatics, research & academia, and more!
SCCP is passionate about helping students grow as student pharmacist and we feel that this mentorship will help them do just that. Students will be meeting with their pharmacists this semester to further develop their profession skills, learn about different pharmacy specialties, and ask questions. SCCP welcomes feedback about your mentorship experience; stay tuned for an email from Kaitlin Bruden (kbruden@wisc.edu) that includes a survey on how we can improve for next year.
ACCP Competitions
For those who may not know, SCCP is the student chapter of ACCP (American College of Clinical Pharmacy). ACCP features two major competitions for pharmacy students:
The Clinical Pharmacy Challenge (CPC)
The CPC qualifier is typically held in the spring and the finalists compete at the ACCP Conference in October
Clinical Research Challenge (CRC)
The CRC qualifier is typically held in January and the winners are announced in May.
No experience with drug literature? No problem! There will be drug literature training with Dr. Margolis that will leave you feeling confident and ready. Watch for information on how to enter in these challenges next semester.
