Doctor of Pharmacy students enrolled full-time in the School of Pharmacy who hold appointments as Research Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Program/Project Assistants, or Lecturer Student Assistants outside of the School of Pharmacy are not permitted to receive tuition remission associated with those positions.
PharmD students are strongly discouraged from accepting these positions while enrolled in the professional program. Under the UW-Madison policy governing graduate assistant appointments, Teaching Assistants are subject to a maximum enrollment of 15 credits during the fall or spring terms and 12 credits during summer terms. The Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum requires enrollment in a high-credit, rigorous course load including mandatory discussions, labs, experiential requirements, and evening exams. These obligations make it difficult for students to fulfill the responsibilities associated with graduate assistant appointments while maintaining satisfactory academic progress in the PharmD program.
The School of Pharmacy will not provide course scheduling, examination, attendance, or other academic accommodations for conflicts arising from employment as a Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Program/Project Assistant, or Lecturer Student Assistant. Students who accept these appointments are solely responsible for ensuring that their employment obligations do not interfere with required PharmD coursework and other program requirements.
