All students are reminded to be aware of their own security, especially after daytime hours. Whenever possible, do not walk alone at night and always be aware of your immediate surroundings. Health Science Complex Security Services, including card access issues, are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by UW–Madison Police Department’s Security Officers. The Security Office is located in HSLC Room 1375, across from the University Book Store near the Health Sciences Learning Center freight elevator.
Campus Safety Resources
- University of Wisconsin Police Department (UWPD) serves as our campus police force and works in conjunction with the City of Madison police force. The UWPD is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you need them.
- WiscAlerts — UW–Madison’s emergency notification system — are designed to provide information about an immediate, actively occurring, and confirmed emergency situation on campus (or an actively occurring threat that’s heading towards campus) that requires the community to take immediate action in order to stay safe.
- BadgerSAFE is the official safety app of UW-Madison Police Department. You’ll receive crime alerts and safety info direct to your phone, you can connect with UWPD quickly via call or text, walk virtually with a trusted friend for family member, and get instant access to campus resources.
- Active Threat Response Training is available in person or online. What you do matters, and we encourage you to remember these three key steps: RUN, HIDE, and FIGHT.
- Nighttime campus bus service can also help you to get home after a long night of studying in the library.
- Emergency Telephones – Over 60 emergency telephones are located throughout the campus. Most emergency phones have a blue light above them and are labeled “911-Emergency.” If you are out at night and need to locate a safe place, you can walk into the foyers of one of the University Residence Halls.
- Office of Cybersecurity at UW-Madison provides information and training to help students prevent identity theft and other online scams.
