Independent Study (699) is intended to be an educational experience in which, typically, one faculty member guides a student, who works independently of other students, on a project of interest. Students are typically expected to spend 2-3 hours per credit per week in the lab or working on the project. Independent Study (699) courses are subject to the following rules:
- A maximum of six (6) credits of independent study (699) course work may count toward the professional electives requirement.
- Prior to enrollment in a 699 course, a student must obtain the permission of the faculty member supervising the course by having the faculty member fill out and sign an Independent Study Consent and Authorization Form (available below). This form must be turned in to the student’s academic advisor.
- Exceptions to the above requirements may be made only with the permission of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
