The University of Wisconsin–Madison supports the right of all enrolled students to a full and equal educational opportunity. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Wisconsin State Statute (36.12), and UW–Madison policy (Faculty Document 1071) require that students with disabilities be reasonably accommodated in instruction and campus life. Reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities is a shared faculty and student responsibility. Students are expected to inform faculty of their need for instructional accommodations by the end of the third week of the semester, or as soon as possible after a disability has been incurred or recognized. Faculty will work either directly with the student or in coordination with the McBurney Center to identify and provide reasonable instructional accommodations. Disability information, including instructional accommodations as part of a student’s educational record, is confidential and protected under FERPA.
The McBurney Disability Resource Center’s mission is to assist in creating an accessible university community where students with disabilities have an equal opportunity to fully participate in all aspects of the educational environment. The center provides direct support services to students with disabilities, including but not limited to: advocacy, counseling, interpreting/captioning, note taking, Brailed, taped, and electronic texts. Students in the School of Pharmacy who have disabilities are asked to submit a copy of their VISA to Becky Beebe in Student Services to keep on file. It is the student’s responsibility to notify the course professor/instructor at the beginning of each semester or as soon as possible during the semester of their special needs. The faculty will work with Student Services to coordinate these accommodations. The school is committed to the academic success of all of its students. Students may contact Becky Beebe with questions or concerns. A student may appeal a denied accommodation request through the university’s appeal and complaint process which can be found at http://www.wisc.edu/adac/students/studentappeal.html.
