Experiential Learning – IPPE/APPE
(posted August 4, 2020)
2020 – 2021 experiential rotations (IPPEs and APPEs) will continue as scheduled in person and if necessary, remotely. Students are required to follow the CDC safety guidelines and COVID19 requirements as specified by your site. In addition, students are required to self-quarantine as recommended by the CDC and State of WI.
We are aware that some sites are not taking student learners. If you have been notified that your site is not available, please contact:
- For IPPE rotations – Tina Rundle tina.rundle@wisc.edu
- For APPE rotations – Mara Kieser mara.kieser@wisc.edu
IPPEs
- Please check the IPPE course webpages for course specific updates
APPEs
- Please check the APPE course webpages for course specific updates
- APPE seminars for Blocks 1, 2, and 3 will be viewed online. Students will NOT go to regional seminar locations. APPE seminar viewing and pre-assignments must be completed by the last Monday of each Block at 8 AM. More information will be provided for seminars in the fall blocks (ie Blocks 4 and 5).
We understand that some students are not comfortable completing rotations during the pandemic. It is your choice. Please note that dropping rotations may delay graduation. If you prefer NOT to complete your rotation at this time, please email Mara Kieser (mara.kieser@wisc.edu).
Covid19 Illness and Experiential Rotations
As we are tracking COVID19 cases, please fill out the survey so we have your information. The link may be found at http://wiscpharmacy.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9vHtVtRR7QLVUOh
If you are feeling ill possibly due to COVID19, please follow the steps listed below:
- Stay home from your rotation site and self-quarantine
- Contact your preceptor to let them know you are not feeling well
- Contact Mara Kieser at mara.kieser@wisc.edu
- Get tested – please notify the site and the school with the results
- Please see this link for testing in the Madison area https://www.uhs.wisc.edu/medical/
- For APPE students… IF you are feeling well enough to work while waiting for your test, you may work remotely with the approval of your preceptor. Please work with your preceptor and track all hours on the APPE hour log.
Test Results
If your test is negative and you are feeling well, and your site approves, you may go to your site. If you are still not feeling well, you should not go to your site. You may work remotely if you are feeling well enough to work with the approval of your preceptor. APPE students need to track all hours on the APPE hour log.
If your test is positive, you will need to follow the CDC guidance on returning to your rotation along with your site’s policy. You may find the CDC information at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/return-to-work.html The current guidance requires you to stay home at least 10 days and 24 hours without a fever not using medications, and your symptoms have improved. Please see the link for further details. You may continue working remotely if you are feeling well enough to work with the approval of your preceptor. APPE students need to track all hours on the APPE hour log.
If you need help scheduling missed hours, please contact Mara Kieser at mara.kieser@wisc.edu
